Top 5 (plus one) albums of 2022

2022 was the year of the comeback. As the music industry stumbled out of its pandemic fog, many artists finally delivered long delayed, highly anticipated, and sonically experimental albums that met some of the expectations built up for them. Kendrick Lamar, Santigold, Tove Lo, M.I.A., Björk, FKA twigs, The Weeknd, Charli XCX, Camila Cabello, Meghan Trainor, Rosalía and Carly Rae Jepsen returned with records that were worth the wait.

These are the 5 (plus one) best albums of my choice.

Το 2022 ήταν η χρονιά του comeback. Καθώς η μουσική βιομηχανία δειλά δειλά έβγαινε από την ομίχλη της πανδημίας, πολλοί καλλιτέχνες επέστρεψαν με πολυαναμενόμενα και ηχητικά πειραματικά άλμπουμ που ανταποκρίθηκαν στις προσδοκίες μας. Οι Kendrick Lamar, Santigold, Tove Lo, M.I.A., Björk, FKA twigs, The Weeknd, Charli XCX, Camila Cabello, Meghan Trainor, Rosalía και Carly Rae Jepsen επέστρεψαν με δίσκους που άξιζαν την αναμονή.

Top 5 (plus 1) albums of 2021

If you’re reading this, give yourself a hearty pat on the back – you made it to December with your faith in music still devout. 2021 was a very weird year, to put it mildly. With some of the most anticipated albums from music’s biggest stars being released. Breakout artists put themselves on the map and set high expectations for whatever they do next and favorite acts moved into the limelight once again with career-best releases. Lana Del Rey released not one but two legend-sealing records, Kacey Musgraves came back with a jaw-dropping album, GIVĒON had a massive year, Brandi Carlile moved us to the core, Silk Sonic, Finneas and Lil Nas X released their debut LPs, Lorde finally blessed us with new music, and more and more.. More than ever, great music was there to be found. These are the 5 (plus one) best albums of the year!

Αν διαβάζετε αυτό το άρθρο, τα καταφέρατε - φτάσατε μέχρι τον Δεκέμβριο με την πίστη σας στη μουσική ακόμα αλώβητη. Το 2021 ήταν μια πολύ περίεργη χρονιά, για να το θέσω ήπια. Με μερικά από τα πιο αναμενόμενα άλμπουμ από τα μεγαλύτερα αστέρια της μουσικής να κυκλοφορούν. Πρωτοεμφανιζόμενοι καλλιτέχνες θέτουν υψηλές προσδοκίες και οι ήδη αγαπημένοι μας ερμηνευτές επανέρχονται στο προσκήνιο με τις καλύτερες κυκλοφορίες της καριέρας τους. Η Lana Del Rey κυκλοφόρησε όχι έναν αλλά δύο επικούς δίσκους, η Kacey Musgraves επέστρεψε με ένα εντυπωσιακό άλμπουμ, ο GIVĒON είχε μία πολύ επιτυχημένη χρονιά, η Brandi Carlile μας γέμισε συναισθήματα, οι Silk Sonic, Finneas και Lil Nas X κυκλοφόρησαν τα πρώτα τους LP, η Lorde μας χάρισε επιτέλους νέα μουσική, και άλλοι πολλοί. Αυτά λοιπόν είναι τα δικά μου 5 (συν ένα) καλύτερα άλμπουμ της χρονιάς!

Top 5 (plus 1) albums of 2020

A year which was terrible in so many respects proved that music has the power to soothe us when stressed, pick us up off the floor when spirits are low and bring us together even when we are apart. It has been a sublime year for women in music, with the likes of Selena Gomez, HAIM,  Grimes, Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande making brilliant, genre-pushing music. There's also been plenty of disco despite the lack of a dance floor, with amazing releases from Róisín Murphy, Miley Cyrus and Kylie Minogue. Meanwhile trap and hip-hop music continued to break barriers with artists like Doja Cat and Megan Thee Stallion leading the charge. The best albums of 2020 proved that incredible new music, e.g. After Hours by The Weeknd or Love Goes by Sam Smith, will always make their way to our ears even in the toughest of times. These are the five best albums of 2020, plus one incredible EP.

Μια πολύ δύσκολη χρονιά, από πολλές απόψεις, απέδειξε ότι η μουσική έχει τη δύναμη να μετριάσει το στρες, να μας συντροφεύσει στις δύσκολες μοναχικές στιγμές και να μας φέρει κοντά ακόμα και όταν είμαστε χώρια. Ήταν μια υπέροχη χρονιά για τις γυναικείες παρουσίες στη μουσική, με τις Selena Gomez, HAIM, Grimes, Lady Gaga και Ariana Grande να δημιουργούν εξαιρετική μουσική. Υπήρξε επίσης αρκετή disco, παρά την έλλειψη dance floor, με εκπληκτικές κυκλοφορίες από τις Róisín Murphy, Miley Cyrus και Kylie Minogue. Εν τω μεταξύ, trap και hip-hop συνέχισε δυναμικά με καλλιτέχνιδες όπως Doja Cat και Megan Thee Stallion να ηγούνται της κατηγορίας. Τα καλύτερα albums του 2020 απέδειξαν ότι αξιόλογες κυκλοφορίες, π.χ. After Hours από The Weeknd ή Love Goes από Sam Smith, θα υπάρχουν ακόμη και στις πιο δύσκολες στιγμές. Αυτά είναι τα πέντε καλύτερα albums του 2020, συν ένα απίστευτο EP!

After nearly a decade of being told albums, as a format, are dead, dying, or rapidly circling the drain, they’re still here. It might not be the golden age of the album anymore, I’ll admit that, but in 2019 artists like Solange, Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Charli XCX, Mark Ronson, Hozier and even Madonna, showed us there is still hope. In the year of the pig -according to the Chinese zodiac- heavy-music fans were blessed with a numerous of new releases from new and old artists. Here are the 5 (plus 1) best albums of 2019.

Εδώ και μια δεκαετία ακούω, τα album έχουν πεθάνει, να ζήσουμε να τα θυμόμαστε, κλπ κλπ. Κάθε χρόνο όμως, υπάρχουν κάμποσα που καταφέρνουν να ξεχωρίσουν και να δικαιολογήσουν τη λατρεία μου προς αυτά. Μπορεί όντως να μην διανύουμε τη χρυσή εποχή του album, αλλά κυκλοφορίες όπως των Solange, Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Charli XCX, Mark Ronson, Hozier, ακόμη και από Madonna, μας έδειξαν ότι υπάρχει ακόμη ελπίδα στους δίσκους!  Τη χρονιά του χοίρου, σύμφωνα με το Κινέζικο ωροσκόπιο, αρκετές ήταν οι κυκλοφορίες που ξεχώρισαν. Αυτά είναι τα δικά μου 5 (συν 1) αγαπημένα albums για το 2019!

In 2018, the heavy-hitters of pop and hip-hop returned, but many disappointed. In fact, new, exciting artists were sharing their talent uncensored while the veterans were holding back. Here are the five best albums of the year (plus 1)!

Το 2018, είχαμε πολλές μεγάλες επιστροφές, στην λατρεμένη pop και hip-hop, πολλές από τις οποίες απογοήτευσαν. Νέοι, ενθουσιασμένοι καλλιτέχνες μας εξέπληξαν θετικά ενώ οι βετεράνοι, όχι. Αυτά είναι τα πέντε καλύτερα album της χρονιάς (plus 1)!

Top 5 (plus 1) albums of 2017

2017 is nearly over and it’s about time for my favorite post: Top 5 (plus 1) albums of the year! How can someone describe a year of pop music during which major acts, like Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran, had their share of success. Pop-tastic to the very least! The year of comebacks would be appropriate as well, hence Kesha, P!nk and Fergie! As for alt-pop, releases from Lana Del Rey, Jessie Ware and HAIM were quite notable. It was quite a pickle to narrow them down to just 5 (plus one) albums.. So folks, check my list after the jump and have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year -I know I will!

Το 2017 σχεδόν έφτασε στο τέλος του και το αγαπημένο μου ποστ είναι εδώ: Top 5 (plus 1) album της χρονιάς! Πως να περιγράψει κανείς μία μουσική χρονιά με κυκλοφορίες από καλλιτέχνες όπως Taylor Swift και Ed Sheeran.. Pop με τα μπούνια! Η χρονιά των comeback ταιριάζει εξίσου, βλέπε Kesha, P!nk και Fergie! Από alt-pop -αγαπώ- Lana Del Rey, HAIM και Jessie Ware.  Αυτή λοιπόν, είναι η δική μου λίστα των 5 (συν ένα) αγαπημένων album της χρονιάς που μας πέρασε. Να έχετε χαρούμενα Χριστούγεννα και Καλή Πρωτοχρονιά, για μένα είναι σίγουρα και τα δύο!

Top 5 (plus 1) albums of 2016

The good albums usually stand out from the first couple of spins, but to narrow them down to the very best ones, that’s a tough job to do. It was, again, a very productive year for the music industry, despite the great losses. Big names, big releases. I had to exclude albums that I love, in order to select the top 5 (plus 1) of 2016. This is a list that reflects my personal taste in music, so don’t get it twisted, for if it is mainly mainstream pop music, that’s me, as mainstream and pop as one gets. Five great albums, plus one EP, that I absolutely adored this past 12 months. Check them out after the jump!

Συνήθως, για να διακρίνεις ένα καλό album αρκεί μία απλή ακρόαση, αλλά το να επιλέξεις πέντε (plus 1) albums ως τα καλύτερα μίας χρονιάς, ε εδώ δυσκολεύει το πράγμα, τουλάχιστον για εμένα. Το 2016 ήταν πολύ παραγωγικό μουσικά, για μία ακόμη φορά, αν εξαιρέσουμε το θανατικό που έπεσε, με αποτέλεσμα να χάσουμε τους μισούς θρύλους της μουσικής που μας είχαν απομείνει. Μεγάλα ονόματα, μεγάλες κυκλοφορίες. Χρειάστηκε να αποκλείσω albums που πραγματικά έλιωσα μέσα στη χρονιά που πέρασε. Η λίστα αυτή, των πέντε (plus 1) - ΕP αυτή τη φορά - καλύτερων albums της χρονιάς, είναι μία καθαρά υποκειμενική επιλογή, οπότε μην σας ξαφνιάζει το περιεχόμενο, mainstream pop μουσική. Αυτός είμαι εγώ, mainstream και pop. Αν δεν σας βρίσκω απόλυτα σύμφωνους, τι να κάνουμε, ελπίζω του χρόνου να πέσω μέσα! Δείτε τις επιλογές μου παρακάτω και ας ελπίσουμε ότι το 2017 δεν θα είναι τόσο θανατερό!

Top 5 (plus 1) albums of 2015

2015 had a lot to offer, music-wise at the very least. Many great albums were released, pop, rock, rap, hip hop. Good efforts from all the music genres in general and I found it quite difficult to choose my very favourite ones. This year’s top 5, plus one, contains five great albums from five extraordinary artists and one compilation, a soundtrack! Check this years Top 5 (plus 1), according to me off course, and have a Merry Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Το 2015 ήταν μία γεμάτη χρονιά, με πολλές εκπλήξεις και πολύ δυνατές στιγμές, τουλάχιστον μουσικά! Οι κυκλοφορίες πολλές και δυστυχώς για εμένα, που έχω το μικρόβιο της κατηγοριοποίησης και λατρεύω τις λίστες, πολύ καλές. Μετά από πολύ κόπο όμως, κατέληξα στα πέντε καλύτερα album της χρονιάς που πέρασε, συν ένα! Το plus 1 αυτής της χρονιάς είναι ένα soundtrack που ξεχώρισε. Δείτε παρακάτω το δικό μου top 5 (plus 1) για το 2015. Χαρούμενα Χριστούγεννα και Καλή Πρωτοχρονιά!

Top 5 (plus 1) albums of 2014

2014 is almost over, so I'm about to have one of my favorite countdowns, the albums of the year! This year, like every other year, was a blast for pop music. Those are five albums, plus one, that really blew my mind these past twelve months, and still do. Many releases were worth our attention, but those after the jump are my favorite ones.

Το 2014 έχει σχεδόν τελειώσει, και αποφάσισα να κάνω ένα countdown από τα πολύ αγαπημένα μου, τα πέντε (συν ένα) αγαπημένα μου album της χρονιάς που πέρασε. Φυσικά και υπήρξαν πολλές αξιόλογες κυκλοφορίες, αλλά αυτές παρακάτω είναι οι δικές μου αγαπημένες.
