Top 5 (plus 1) albums of 2017

2017 is nearly over and it’s about time for my favorite post: Top 5 (plus 1) albums of the year! How can someone describe a year of pop music during which major acts, like Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran, had their share of success. Pop-tastic to the very least! The year of comebacks would be appropriate as well, hence Kesha, P!nk and Fergie! As for alt-pop, releases from Lana Del Rey, Jessie Ware and HAIM were quite notable. It was quite a pickle to narrow them down to just 5 (plus one) albums.. So folks, check my list after the jump and have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year -I know I will!

Από alt-pop -αγαπώ- Lana Del Rey, HAIM και Jessie Ware.

5. Harry Styles by Harry Styles

After a stellar run with One Direction, Harry Styles claims a spot at rock stardom. In his debut solo album Harry is getting personal with a sublime album of Seventies-style grooves. Get used to him because the future seems bright for the very stylish Harry!

4. Melodrama by Lorde

After conquering the world with her debut album, Lorde took some time off to do some growing up. At age 20, Lorde raised the bar even higher with her sophomore LP. An art-rock ambitious effort that showcases a wider musical palette. A record that will be a milestone for us pop hopefuls for years to come

3. The Thrill Of It All by Sam Smith

It could be easily my No. 1, because Sam is my love, but I decided to be unbiased for once. The follow-up to his massive In The Lonely Hour LP is a dazzling, gospel-charged, vocal masterpiece.

2. DAMN. by Kendrick Lamar

Rap's most powerful ambassador at the absolute top of his game. The master storyteller outshines every other competitor with his fourth album. When someone puts every track title on their album in caps, you know they’re not messing around.

1. I See You by The xx

When they arrived on the scene with their outstanding debut xx in 2009, the London trio were ahead of the times with their elegant, sparse pop sound. I See You found the trio inspired by the sunshine and landscapes of LA, mixing their trademark sound with dance and RnB.

Plus 1. La La Land: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Not only the movie per se is my favorite for this past year, but also the soundtrack made my life brighter and happier! The picture may has won Golden Globes and Academy Awards but the music took over my heart during this past summer. Practically, it was released in December 2016, but I got familiar with it in January 2017 so it does count!
