Róisín Murphy's Athens concert review

I can’t say that I was a Róisín Murphy fan from day one, I only started paying attention a couple of years ago, but after last night I consider myself devoted to her talent and her lavishing charm. That girl is theatre! Change costume after change costume, masks, bizarre wigs, fluffy hats and a penis on her head that had the crowd cheering - and all the changes happened without even leaving the stage! An artist with such presence, commanded the stage oozing with confidence and winning me over track by track. Lucky for me, the setlist was mainly from her last two albums Hairless Toys and Take He Up To Monto. “Thoughts Wasted”, “Gone Fishing”, “Evil Eyes”, “Exploitation”, “Mastermind”, “Ten Miles High” and many more. Personally, I left the concert ultra - satisfied, but I can't say the same for all the hard core fans. They came to hear some classic Róisín, which only happened with a few songs, “Forever More” and “Jealousy” were the two that I distinctly recognized. Frankly, I believe that artists evolve, mature and that reflects in their work, which is fine, but you have to give something more to those who - boom - were fans from the Moloko times. They came for some classic Róisín and you treated them with ballads..

Σίγουρα δεν υπήρξα fan της Róisín Murphy από την αρχή, τα τελευταία δύο χρόνια έχω ξεκινήσει να την παρακολουθώ, αλλά μετά την χθεσινή βραδιά προσκυνώ το ταλέντο και την γοητεία της. Τόσες αλλαγές σε κοστούμια, χνουδωτά καπέλα, περίεργες περούκες και ένα πέος στο κεφάλι της που πραγματικά ήταν το κάτι άλλο - και όλα αυτά πάνω στη σκηνή. Ευτυχώς για μένα, το setlist ήταν κυρίως από τα δύο τελευταία της album, Hairless Toys και Take He Up To Monto. “Thoughts Wasted”, “Gone Fishing”, “Evil Eyes”, “Exploitation”, “Mastermind”, “Ten Miles High” και πολλά άλλα. Από τα παλιότερα κομμάτια - που δεν ηταν και πολλά - κατάφερα να ξεχωρίσω τα “Forever More” και “Jealousy”. Αυτός ήταν και ο λόγος που οι σκληροπυρηνικοι fan της έφυγαν κάπως απογοητευμένοι. Προσωπικά, πιστεύω και υποστηρίζω το δικαίωμα των καλλιτεχνών να εξελίσσονται, να ωριμάζουν και όλο αυτό, φυσικά, να αντικατοπτρίζεται στο έργο τους. Αλλά κάποιοι σε ακολουθούν από τον καιρό των Moloko και ήρθαν για να ακούσουν κλασική Róisín, μην τους φτύνεις με μπαλάντες.

Υ.Γ. Οι φωτογραφίες είναι απαίσιες το ξέρω, αλλά δεν μπόρεσα να τραβολογήσω την παρέα μου πιο κοντά στη σκηνή, όπως κάνω συνήθως.

Lana Del Rey rocks TerraVibe!

Lana Del Rey rocked Rockwave Festival's stage once again! She came back to her beloved Greek fans after her live debut on the TerraVibe stage three years ago. This time around she knew what to expect, the crowd cheered her up from start to finish. She has grown her fan base since the last time as the crowd was bigger and louder and everyone knew the lyrics to each and every song by heart. To my surprise, the playlist was consisted by fan favourite songs but Salvatore, which the crowd begged for but Lana wasn't up for the favour. Video Games, Blue Jeans, Born To Die, Cola, Honeymoon, High By The Beach, Freak and fan favourites like Lolita, Serial Killer and Off To The Races. The most intimate moment was when Lana sang Yayo, one of the very first songs she has ever written - it was included in her first ever released album as Lizzy Grant - which she sang while playing the guitar. Can't wait to see her again!

H Lana Del Rey βρέθηκε για μία ακόμη φορά στη σκηνή του Rockwave Festival και μας υπενθύμισε γιατί τη λατρεύουμε τόσο. Το κοινό της Αθήνας την αγαπά και η Lana ήξερε τι να περιμένει αυτή τη φορά. Οι φωνές των θαυμαστών της κατα τη διάρκεια του show κάλυπταν τη μουσική και την ίδια, η οποία δεν έχασε ευκαιρία να αγκαλιάσει μερικούς τυχερούς στις πρώτες σειρές και να βγάλει φωτογραφίες μαζί τους. Προς μεγάλη μου έκπληξη, το playlist του show ήταν κομμένο και ραμμένο για τους hardcore fans. Φυσικά Video Games, Blue Jeans, Born To Die, Cola, Honeymoon, High By The Beach, Freak και τα αγαπημένα των θαυμαστών της Lolita, Serial Killer και Off To The Races. Η πιο δυνατή στιγμή της βραδιάς ήταν όταν τραγούδησε το Yayo, ένα από τα πρώτα τραγούδια που έγραψε ώς Lizzy Grant στο πρώτο πρώτο της album, το οποίο συνόδεψε με κιθάρα που έπαιζε η ίδια. Ελπίζω να γυρίσει πίσω σύντομα!

Marina and The Diamonds live in Athens

Marina shined bright like a real diamond last night in Athens for the very first time! The Greek jewel was on stage for an hour and a half  and sang all of her big hits, old and new, dividing her show in three parts, named after her three albums - Family Jewels, Electra Heart and FROOT. She kicked of the night with oldies like "I Am Not A Robot", "Oh No!", "Obsessions", "Primadonna", "Teen Idle", "Lies" and closed the show with her new ones like "Froot", "I'm A Ruin", "Can't Pin Me Down", "Blue", "Happy". She spoke in Greek through the entire night and promised to come back again! Oh, and we got to meet the Diamonds - her family - for real!

Η Marina έλαμψε χθες βράδυ, σαν πραγματικό διαμάντι, αφού βρέθηκε μπροστά στο Αθηναϊκό κοινό για πρώτη φορά. Το Ελληνικής καταγωγής, διεθνούς φήμης, κόσμημα, τραγούδησε όλα τα μεγάλα hit της, παλιά και καινούρια, χωρίζοντας το show σε τρία μέρη, όσα και τα album της - Family Jewels, Electra Heart και FROOT. Ξεκίνησε με τα παλιά καλά "I Am Not A Robot", "Oh No!", "Obsessions", "Primadonna", "Teen Idle", "Lies"  και έκλεισε τη βραδιά με τα πιο πρόσφατα "Froot", "I'm A Ruin", "Can't Pin Me Down", "Blue", "Happy". Όλο το βράδυ μας μιλούσε στα Ελληνικά, "σπασμένα" όπως η ίδια τα χαρακτήρισε,  και μας υποσχέθηκε να επιστρέψει σύντομα. Αα, και γνωρίσαμε και την οικογένειά της, δεν αστειέυομαι!

Robbie Williams is coming to Athens!

It is official, Mr Robbie Williams is coming for the very first time to Athens this summer, June 20, at Rockwave Festival as part of the promo tour for his brand new album "Under the Radar Volume 1"!

Είναι επίσημο, ο Robbie Williams έρχεται για πρώτη φορά στην Αθήνα το καλοκαίρι, 20 Ιουνίου, στο Rockwave Festival. Η εμφάνιση θα είναι μέρος της περιοδείας με σκοπό την προώθηση του νέου album του "Under the Radar Volume 1"!

Lady Gaga's artRave in Athens

Stellar voice performances, homosexuality embracing speeches, tear-dropping fan letter reading, a Greek flag wrapped around her and screaming fans are the highlight of last night's artRave! Gaga performed all of her big hits like "Bad Romance", Pokerface", "Just Dance", a piano version of "Born This Way", and off course a large majority of ARTPOP stuff, "ARTPOP", "Do What You Want", "Applause", "Manicure", "G.U.Y.", "Venus" and the last one was "Gypsy". Was it worth it? Every penny that I spend, and it was a lot. Was it fun? When she was trying to speak Greek she was adorable. Any last words? I quote Gaga on this one "Be gay and be proud, now scream", and we did!

Εξαιρετικές ερμηνείες, λόγος για την αποδοχή της ομοφυλοφιλίας, μία δακρύβρεχτη ανάγνωση ενός γράμματος από θαυμαστή της, την Ελληνική σημαία τυλιγμένη πάνω της και χιλιάδες κόσμο να ουρλιάζει. Αυτά είναι τα higlights της χθεσινής βραδιάς. Η Gaga φυσικά και τραγούδησε όλες τι; μεγάλες επιτυχίες της, όπως "Bad Romance", Pokerface", "Just Dance", μία πιάνο διασκευή του "Born This Way", και πολλά από τον τελευταίο της δίσκο ARTPOP, "ARTPOP", "Do What You Want", "Applause", "Manicure", "G.U.Y.", "Venus" και έκλεισε με το "Gypsy". Άξιζε; Αν υπήρχε ακριβότερο εισητήριο, που δεν υπήρχε, θα το αγόραζα και πάλι. Είχε πλάκα; Όταν μας έλεγε "Σας αγκαπώ", "Φιλάκια", "Μωράκι" ήταν αξιολάτρευτη. Κάποια τελευταία λόγια; Δανείζομαι τη φράση της Μητέρας: "Να είστε gay και να είστε περήφανοι, τώρα ουρλιάξτε".

 

Lady Gaga arrives in Athens

Seashell bikini goddess Lady Gaga, finally arrived in Athens last night. The big day that ArtRave will entertain us all Little Monsters is tomorrow, September 19. Mother Monster got excited and naked in the bathroom of her hotel's room and posted some photos on Instagram. Get ready for tomorrow Big Greek Monsters!

Η Θεά του έρωτα, και ενίοτε jazz τραγουδίστρια, Lady Gaga έφτασε χτες το βράδυ στην Αθήνα. Η μεγάλη μέρα της συναυλίας, μέρος της περιοδείας της ArtRave Tour, είναι αύριο 19 Σεπτεμβρίου. Η Mother Monster ενθουσιάστηκε με το δωμάτιο του ξενοδοχείου και είπε να βγάλει τα ρούχα της και να τραβήξει μερικές φωτογραφίες. Ετοιμαστείτε για αύριο Little Monsters!
