It has been a sublime year for women in music, with the likes of Selena Gomez, HAIM, Grimes, Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande making brilliant, genre-pushing music. There's also been plenty of disco despite the lack of a dance floor, with amazing releases from Róisín Murphy, Miley Cyrus and Kylie Minogue. Meanwhile trap and hip-hop music continued to break barriers with artists like Doja Cat and Megan Thee Stallion leading the charge. The best albums of 2020 proved that incredible new music, e.g. After Hours by The Weeknd or Love Goes by Sam Smith, will always make their way to our ears even in the toughest of times.
