Top 5 (plus 1) albums of 2018

In 2018, the heavy-hitters of pop and hip-hop returned, but many disappointed. In fact, new, exciting artists were sharing their talent uncensored while the veterans were holding back. Here are the five best albums of the year (plus 1)!

5. Honey by Robyn

Even when (sometimes) she gets rid of melody, Robyn manages to create a golden ecstasy. Nine songs that glow and pulse with bittersweet sensuality.

4. Chris by Christine and the Queens

Heloise Letissier rebranded herself as Chris and expanded once again the borders between gender, era and genre. Letissier’s vintage synths is ridiculously danceable.

3. Invasion of Privacy by Cardi B

Cardi B portraits her twisted personality so beautifully on her debut album which oozes confidence. She weaponizes her own sexuality and drips venom with every rhyme she spits. That’s exactly what makes a great rapper!

2. Bloom by Troye Sivan

Troye Sivan turns the LGBTQ+ matters into a harmonious and vital pop record on Bloom.

1. Dirty Computer by Janelle Monáe

Janelle’s third full-length album Dirty Computer is a record that will go down as a milestone. It is a work of art that celebrates queerness, female power, and self-worth.

Plus 1. A Star Is Born: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

A Star Is Born (the film) showcases Bradley Cooper’s talent to sing, act and direct. Αs for Lady Gaga, her pop prowess made the movie a smash hit and her songwriting skills and otherworldly vocals will earn her the Oscar she so badly deserves. The soundtrack is full of instant classics!
